All the Possessions in the World
Today, I had it in my mind I was going to write about a calander book my husband ordered from our local bank. We didn’t really need the calander book, but because it was a 75th edition with a picture of the capital on front, he felt compelled to take it. Many of us do.
But, then I opened my email, and as a member of my local freecycle group I read a post that both compelled me and reminded me again of the calander. A woman in a nearby town was giving away everything in her home. She would be homeless at the beginning of February. I don’t know her situation, but I know this - most people who were about to lose their home probably wouldn’t be giving away their things. They’d sell them in effort to prevent being homeless.
I have both recieved things through freecycle and given things away to those who truelly needed them. The items I have received were blessing to my family. Even though what the woman offered a few were tempting, but I knew I could never take from her - her genorousity to give to others while she had nothing touches me.
So today, I’m going to pray for this woman.
My husband didn’t need another calander, but because it was special (the 75th anniversary) he thought he should have it. We didn’t need another calander. The woman on freecycle needs a home. She doesn’t need possessions. She’s shown that by giving them away.
She might become one of many who live in their cars, find havens in a shelter, or are lucky enough to have a friend or relative take her in. These are hard times. Pray with me today, for this woman, for all those who are homeless, that communities would bond and these people would have warm beds and brightened furtures through the storm of their misfortune.
