Moms’ Views on their Relationship with God
The other day, I had the opportunity to sit down with several other moms in a discussion group setting. Out of several of the questions we discussed, this one stuck with me the most - “What is your current relationship with God and how does it reflect through your children?”
There was a moment when the question was first presented when none of the mom’s spoke, but you could see everyone was thinking. I asked myself that same question, and these are the answers that came to me.
As for me and God, we’re close. I have to say, I at least talk to Him everyday, and I spend a few minutes in His word thanks to a daily email I get from Family Life. As a mother, I have been growing along with my children in both relationship and mentorship.
One mother spoke at our discussion saying along the lines of this, “I never realized my son was mimicking me unitl one day I noticed he was tracing his finger on the mouse pad of my computer the same way I do. I think of all the times mommy screams at him, because I’ve had enough and am faustrated as a caregiver.”
Another mom said something along those same lines. Mom #2 went on to say her life kept her so busy, running after toddlers and taking care of the family, that she didn’t have time for God these days, but she knew she needed to make more time for getting to know Him again.
Mom #3 confussed she’d been going to church regularly for over a year now with her children and spouse. It was amazing how God entered their lives and how much more structured their family had become.
I could go on and on, but I’ll stop here.
Today, were are you at in your relationship with God? Do you have a relationship with God? Spend fifteen minutes today sharing who God is and where He stands in relationship with your family. Sit down with your children, mentor your child, and invite God into your family.
